Who We Are

Presbyterians are a group of Protestants whose church is founded on the concept of democratic rule under the Word of God. The Presbyterian denomination is a form of Christianity democratically organized to embrace the faith common to all Christians.

The Presbyterian church is a representative democracy governed by Elders elected from and by the congregation. Authority resides with the duly elected representatives of the congregation in the appointed church governing bodies. The local church governing body is the Session.

The Session oversees the day-to-day work of the church. It performs much of its work through a number of standing committees. Such committees rely on the generous donation of time and talents from members and friends of the congregation to carry out the work and mission of the church.

Deacons are elected to conduct the temporal and charitable ministry of the church. They provide care, in a variety of ways, to the church family, friends, and the community at large.
What We Believe: There is no strict set of beliefs that unite Presbyterians or separate us from other followers of Christ. Like other Christians, Presbyterians believe in: God Creator of the universe Christ The incarnation of God on earth The Holy Spirit The presence of God in the world and in the believer The Church A universal company of Christ's followers Forgiveness of Sin Made possible by the crucifixion of Jesus Life Everlasting Shown by the resurrection of Jesus The Bible The inspired word of God

What We Believe:

There is no strict set of beliefs that unite Presbyterians or separate us from other followers of Christ. Like other Christians, Presbyterians believe in:

God Creator of the universe
Christ The incarnation of God on earth
The Holy Spirit The presence of God in the world and in the believer
The Church A universal company of Christ's followers
Forgiveness of Sin Made possible by the crucifixion of Jesus
Life Everlasting Shown by the resurrection of Jesus
The Bible The inspired word of God

There's no mystery as to how one may become a Presbyterian. All that is required is that you:

Confess the Christian faith.

Trust in Christ as our forgiving Savior.

Promise to follow Christ and Christ's example for living.

Commit oneself to attend church and to become involved in its work

Our inspiration and guidance in faith comes from two main sources --the Bible and Creeds and Confessions. Creeds and Confessions are statements of doctrine which express the beliefs of a church or congregation.

Presbyterians recognize two Sacraments as described in the Bible. The first is Baptism --a Sacrament which unites us with Christ. The second is Communion, which is a time to renew our faith and prepare us for the duties and privileges of Christian service.

Giving our church family and community excellent pastoral care is the mission of the Board of Deacons of Mason First Presbyterian Church. We are here to serve you and your family in the time of need.

How can you share our vision? Please relate to us your pastoral care ideas. Deacons can care for those in need: the sick, the lonely, those grieving a recent loss, those experiencing major life changes, assist the pastor with in-home communion, etc. We can provide rides to doctor appointments or to church. Deacons can deliver meals to those who need this service. We are able to assist families in crisis. We can provide information on community social services. We can help with minor home repairs for those unable to do this for themselves. We are happy to pray for you and with you.

Please contact the church office with your ideas or requests.
